(10/100) SYDNEY
Sydney in 2005 and I was a coffee lover - I’d just made the switch from commercial law to IBD. It was boom time. Slowly I moved from one to two to three flat whites a day before graduating to the shorter piccolo (better/less milk-to-coffee ratio). Coffee in Sydney CBD was all about finding your local hole in the wall. Your oasis. The barista you connected with and coffee you enjoyed. It was a happy place for escape, reset and a bit of perspective. My favourites in the city were:
- @marlowesway - Tank Stream Way serving coffee by our favourite @thelittlemarionette coffee
- @2pennybluecoffee - in the alcove under the GPO building, serving @tobysestatecoffee
- @pabloandrustys.syd - more morning meeting than hole in the wall, Castelreagh Street
- @joe_black_cafe - on King street tucked under Louis Vuitton with @5sensescoffee
- @districtbrasserie- directly under my old office (great rum spiced caneles and bakery)
When in Sydney, I took great coffee for granted and really missed it when I moved to London. We had so much passion for coffee – the best beans which give layers of flavours (chocolate, hazelnut, dark fruits, hints of acidity), super cool machines which give precise and consistent extraction - creamy milk to give that unbeatable and momentary silky texture – brilliant baristas showing off their personality in latte art and great banter.
We’ve sought to replicate this engaging, consistent, high quality approach to coffee when creating Daisy (and Beany).
Whether you’re sitting in one of the cafes or sipping on a takeaway with limited edition artwork by the likes of @louisedear, @shubyart or @g.r.a.z.i.e, we hope you feel a sense of happiness and all the great things that home brings to mind for me ️♥️
