(5a/100) A MELTING POT OF FOOD CULTURE
This is Lorne… 2 hours from Melbourne on the Great Ocean Road… a lot of summers spent here between coffee @moonsespressobar, brunch at @thebottleofmilk, ice cold happy hour pots at the Aquatic Club and dinner at @ipsos_restaurant.
@ipsos_restaurant is one of my favourites - their buttery grilled saganaki cheese with roasted grapes is seriously good. Their food represents so much of what is amazing about Australian food culture - a melting pot of cultures coming from its diverse migrant population (in 2015, Melbourne was home to the world’s largest Greek population outside of Greece. Chinese cuisine topped a 2019 poll as the nation’s favourite food and Melbourne’s bánh mì is gaining a global reputation). Each culture brings its own traditions and flavours – with happy fusions as a result when brought together.
In my view, Australian cuisine is at its best when it’s a combination of fresh, simple Mediterranean flavours and techniques boosted by big Asian flavours of chilli, herbs and citrus.
Our best-selling halloumi fries were inspired by @ipsos_restaurant and the Greek culture we have come to love in Aus. Recipe coming in our next post!! ️
